DepEd supervisor shot dead in Zamboanga Sibugay

Metrosundaily May 1, 2026

A SENIOR official of the Department of Education (DepEd) was killed in a brazen shooting incident in Alicia town on Thursday evening, police confirmed on Friday.

The victim was identified as Rey Camaingking, who served as public school district supervisor assigned to the Olutanga District. His death has drawn strong condemnation from the education sector, while authorities have launched a full investigation to identify the perpetrators and determine the motive behind the attack.

According to the Zamboanga Sibugay Police Provincial Office, the incident took place around 7:30 p.m. near Guicam Port while Camaingking was walking in the area. Two unidentified assailants approached him and shot him in the head using a .45 caliber pistol, killing him instantly.

Immediately after the shooting, the suspects fled the scene onboard a black motorcycle and headed toward the direction of Barangay Kawayan. Law enforcement officers are currently tracking possible leads, while a Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) team has been deployed to gather evidence and process the site.

The DepEd Schools Division of Zamboanga Sibugay expressed deep sorrow over the incident, remembering Camaingking as a dedicated leader and committed public servant who worked tirelessly for the improvement of education in his jurisdiction. In an official statement, the division strongly denounced the violence perpetrated against one of its personnel and called on authorities to act swiftly.

“We vehemently condemn this act of violence against a member of our educational family. We call upon the authorities for a swift investigation to ensure that justice is served,” the statement read. As of now, the police have not yet established the motive for the killing, whether it was work-related, personal, or politically motivated.
