MANILA — Leaders of the IM k Leni movement on Monday urged Senator Bam Aquino to seek the presidency in 2028, citing the need for national unity and a break from patronage politics.
The group, formed during the 2022 ‘Pink’ campaign, said the strong showing of reform-oriented candidates in the 2025 midterm elections signals continued public support for ‘Gobyernong Tapat.’
Elmer Argaño, the movement’s secretary-general, described Aquino as a “modern centrist” capable of bridging political divides. “The country needs a leader who is both progressive and pragmatic—someone who can unite a fractured nation,” Argaño said. Supporters pointed to Aquino’s record on education, jobs, and support for micro, small and medium enterprises, saying his legislative agenda offers a roadmap for economic recovery.
The group said it is mobilizing its nationwide network to build support for a potential Aquino presidential bid, calling on young voters to take an active role ahead of the 2028 elections.
