AKBAYAN Partylist Rep. Perci Cendaña today urged the Light Rail Management Corporation (LRMC) and the Department of Transportation (DOTr) to implement the same 50% discount that is being granted in LRT-2 and MRT-3 stations.
“Nakabalik na’t lahat-lahat ang mga kababayan natin galing sa kaniya-kaniyang probinsya, wala pa ring fare discount ang LRT-1. Tapos na ang Holy Week — bawasan na natin ang dagdag na pasanin nila sa pamasahe,” he said.
“The DOTR must negotiate with the LRMC to cut fares by 50%, just like in LRT-2 and MRT-3. Dapat ma-secure ito ASAP dahil patuloy ang pagsirit ng presyo ng petrolyo,” he added.
Cendaña also urged the DOTr to waive the fares for already discounted sectors:
“Kung hindi pa kayang i-relieve ang pamasahe para sa lahat ng komyuter, ilibre na muna sana ang sakay para sa mga PWDs, senior citizens at mga estudyante sa lahat ng LRT at MRT stations. Lalo na’t dumadaan ang LRT-1 sa U-Belt area, kung saan maraming estudyanteng umaasa sa public transportation.”
Since March 23, the fares for LRT-2 and MRT-3 have been reduced by 50%, in response to the rising fuel prices brought about by the ongoing US-Iran conflict.
