Petron announces significant LPG price hike effective April 1

admin March 31, 2026

PETRON Corporation has announced a substantial double-digit increase in the price of its liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), set to take effect on April 1, 2026. The oil company stated in an advisory that the price of its LPG tanks will be hiked by P20 per kilogram, with the adjustment becoming effective at 12:01 a.m. on Wednesday.

This price increase translates to a significant P220 rise for a typical 11-kilogram LPG cylinder, a cost that will directly impact households relying on this cooking fuel.

The company attributed this price adjustment to the prevailing international contract price of LPG for the month of April. This global market fluctuation is a primary driver of the domestic price hike. Data from the Department of Energy (DOE) indicates that as of March 2026, the price of an 11-kilo LPG tank had been ranging between P818.62 and P1,128.62. The upcoming increase by Petron is expected to push prices towards the higher end of this spectrum, or potentially exceed it, depending on the final retail pricing strategies of various distributors.

This development comes shortly after the LPG Marketers Association (LPGMA) issued a warning last week about a potential surge in LPG tank prices, estimating they could reach as high as P1,500 in April. The LPGMA cited rising shipping costs, exacerbated by limited access to the Strait of Hormuz, as a major contributing factor to their projection. The Petron announcement aligns with these concerns, suggesting that the global geopolitical and logistical challenges are indeed translating into higher costs for consumers.

The impending price hike for LPG is likely to place additional financial strain on Filipino households, many of whom are already contending with the rising costs of other essential goods and services. The DOE’s data highlights the already considerable price range for LPG, and the P220 increase for an 11-kg cylinder will represent a significant additional expense for consumers, particularly those with lower incomes who rely heavily on LPG for their daily cooking needs.
