Angono, Rizal – A tragic incident on Manila East Road in Barangay San Isidro on Sunday afternoon resulted in the deaths of four individuals and injuries to one, after a car veered off course and struck a motorcycle carrying a couple, as well as several pedestrians, before crashing into a bakery. The 66-year-old female driver of the car has been arrested.
The incident occurred around 1:00 PM. CCTV footage captured the moment a speeding car suddenly crossed lanes, first colliding with the motorcycle carrying the couple. The vehicle then continued onto the sidewalk, hitting several people before crashing into the bakery.
According to the police, the arrested driver claimed that her vehicle lost its brakes on a downhill section of the road, leading to the collision.
Among the fatalities was a 69-year-old homeless woman who was reportedly near the area at the time of the incident. The other victims, including the couple on the motorcycle and a 15-year-old male, were rushed to the hospital but later succumbed to their injuries. A 13-year-old male victim survived and is being treated for his injuries.
The couple’s relatives said they were headed to a birthday party when the crash happened. They expressed deep grief, particularly as one of the deceased was a breadwinner for their family.
The 66-year-old female driver, who reportedly declined to speak to the media, faces charges of reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicide and serious physical injuries.
