Romualdez: Relief from rising fuel prices coming soon

admin March 16, 2026

Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez.

LEYTE Rep. Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez on Monday said people would soon get relief from rising fuel prices.

Romualdez made the statement following approval by the House of Representatives of a consolidated version of proposals to give President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr. has the authority to suspend excise taxes on oil products.

The approved bill, principally authored by Speaker Faustino “Bojie” G. Dy III and Majority Leader Ferdinand Alexander “Sandro” A. Marcos, is a consolidation of 15 related measures and two joint resolutions, one of which was authored by Romualdez.

“Another big-time fuel increase is set to take effect tomorrow. This should prompt us, members of the House and the Senate, to expedite the final approval of this measure, which PBBM has certified as urgent,” the Leyte House leader said.

He said once the president signs the bill into law, he can already declare a state of national emergency and suspect fuel excise levies.

“That will provide much-needed relief to motorists and consumers in terms of a fuel price reduction of P6 to P10, he said.

“The amount may be small, given that pump prices will increase again, but the government is providing other forms of assistance,” Romualdez added.
