AKBAYAN Party, in collaboration with Simbahan at Komunidad laban sa Katiwalian (SIKLAB), is set to spearhead the “People Power vs. Duterte’s EJK” rally on Monday, February 23, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Boy Scout Circle, Quezon City.
This demonstration is a direct response to the commencement of the pre-trial hearing at the International Criminal Court (ICC) against former President Rodrigo Duterte, who faces accusations of committing crimes against Filipinos through extrajudicial killings (EJK).
The primary objective of this mobilization is to amplify the voices of EJK victims and provide a platform for their families to seek justice. Organizers aim to draw public attention to the human rights issues and demand accountability for the alleged abuses committed during Duterte’s administration. The rally is expected to gather various human rights advocates, concerned citizens, and representatives from different sectors of society, all united in their call for justice and an end to impunity.
This rally is strategically timed as part of a series of mobilizations leading up to the 40th anniversary of the EDSA People Power uprising on February 25. By linking the fight against EJKs to the legacy of EDSA, organizers hope to highlight the ongoing struggle for democracy and accountability in the Philippines. They emphasize that holding abusive leaders accountable and preventing state violence are crucial components of safeguarding democratic values and ensuring that the sacrifices of those who fought for freedom during EDSA are not forgotten.
