META the parent company of Facebook, has announced that it will no longer support messaging services on Messenger.com starting in April 2026.
This decision marks a shift in Meta’s strategy, consolidating its messaging services to focus on the Facebook website and the Messenger mobile application. Users who currently rely on Messenger.com will need to adapt to these alternative platforms to continue their online conversations.
According to Meta, users can continue sending and receiving messages on the web by using Facebook.com/messages. The company stated that after Messenger.com is discontinued, users will be automatically redirected to Facebook.com/messages when attempting to access the service on a computer.
This transition aims to streamline the messaging experience and ensure users can still connect with their contacts through Meta’s primary platforms.
In addition to discontinuing Messenger.com, Meta has also confirmed that the Messenger desktop app will no longer be available. This means that users who prefer a dedicated desktop application for messaging will need to switch to using the Facebook website or the Messenger mobile app.
The decision to phase out both Messenger.com and the desktop app reflects Meta’s broader strategy of optimizing its resources and focusing on its core platforms.
Ultimately, users will need to transition to either the Facebook website or the Messenger mobile app to continue their messaging activities once Messenger.com is officially discontinued. This change may require some adjustment for users who have grown accustomed to the convenience of Messenger.com, but Meta aims to provide a seamless transition to ensure users can stay connected with their friends and family.
