Malacañang denies cancer rumors, slams ‘fake news peddler’

admin February 11, 2026

MALACANANG on Wednesday denied rumors that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is sick with cancer, dismissing them as fake news.

During a press briefing, Presidential Communications Office Undersecretary Claire Castro addressed a social media post by former Palace spokesperson Harry Roque, who questioned whether Marcos has colon cancer based on a supposed bulge in his stomach area.

Castro condemned the post as a baseless rumor, stating that such rumors and gossip are untrue, damaging to the government and the President, and negatively impact the economy.

Castro further criticized Roque, labeling him a “fake news peddler.” She pointed to a video where the President raised his hands while waving to the public, clearly showing that Roque’s claims were false.

The Palace had previously denied rumors that the President would undergo surgery for diverticulitis, an inflammation of pouches in the large intestine. Marcos himself has emphasized that his illness is not life-threatening.
