A DEVASTATING accident occurred in Bayawan City, Negros Oriental, on February 4, 2026, when a cargo truck belonging to the Bayawan Local Government Unit (LGU) plunged into a ravine in Brgy. Kalamtukan. The incident took place at approximately 11:15 AM, leaving the community in mourning.
Initial reports indicate that the cargo truck was en route to barangay Mandu-ao, a remote hinterland area in Bayawan City, carrying five barrels of fuel intended for heavy equipment used in the area. Tragically, the vehicle veered off the road and plummeted into the ravine, resulting in catastrophic consequences.
According to police reports, approximately nine individuals employed by the Bayawan City LGU lost their lives in the accident. The victims were reportedly involved in various projects and services provided by the local government to the remote barangay.
