THE Department of Justice (DOJ) is scheduled to issue subpoenas next week to Senator Jinggoy Estrada and former Senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla, who are facing separate plunder complaints related to the flood control corruption scandal.
DOJ Prosecutor General Richard Fadullon announced at the Saturday News Forum in Quezon City that the Justice Department will be issuing the subpoenas “this coming week” in connection with those cases.
“Meaning to say magsisimula na po ‘yung PI [preliminary investigation] sa kanila (meaning to say the preliminary investigation for their complaints will begin),” Fadullon stated.
On Thursday, DOJ spokesperson Polo Martinez confirmed that the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) had filed separate plunder complaints with the DOJ against Revilla and Estrada. Fadullon explained that the NBI, with the assistance of DOJ prosecutors, conducted a fact-finding investigation, which led to a recommendation or referral to the Office of the Ombudsman.
The Ombudsman will then evaluate whether there is sufficient evidence to proceed with the cases.
