OVERSEAS Filipino Workers (OFWs) can now renew their driver’s licenses without the added expense of medical exams and courier fees, thanks to a new initiative by the Land Transportation Office (LTO).
The LTO will be providing these services free of charge through license renewal caravans organized in collaboration with the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) and the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW).
In a statement released on Wednesday, the LTO emphasized that OFWs will no longer need to travel back to the Philippines to renew their licenses. Instead, LTO teams will be directly providing services in various foreign countries through these caravans, working in close partnership with OWWA and DMW.
The LTO noted that OFWs typically spend up to P6,000 for medical examinations and courier fees alone when renewing their driver’s licenses. This new program aims to alleviate that financial burden.
Under the memorandum, OFWs will be able to claim their updated driver’s licenses at designated OWWA or DMW offices, or at Philippine embassies. The program includes free courier services to transport the processed licenses from the Philippines to these locations, where OFWs can then pick them up in person.
