A FORMER Sangguniang Kabataan official from San Pedro, Pateros, was killed after being ambushed by a riding-in-tandem. The victim’s bag, reportedly containing ₱500,000, was also taken by the assailants.
The victim was identified as Mark Herman Tañga, who was riding a red motorcycle on Friday.
CCTV footage showed Tañga being followed by the riding-in-tandem after leaving his house before 10 p.m. Another CCTV clip revealed that the suspects had been waiting in the area for a considerable amount of time.
“He was on his way home from our place when a motorcycle followed him. The story is that they kicked him, kicked the motorcycle, snatched the bag, and then shot him,” said Mina Tañga, the victim’s sister.
The suspects caught up with the victim in Barangay Ususan, Taguig, where one of them grabbed his bag. The victim managed to get away, but one of the suspects followed him and shot him multiple times.
Aside from the bag containing ₱500,000, the victim’s motorcycle was also taken but later abandoned by the perpetrators nearby.
Police are continuing to investigate the identities of the riding-in-tandem and the motive for the killing.
Robbery is one of the angles being considered, according to the victim’s family. They are unaware of any known enemies of the former barangay official.
The local government of Pateros has offered a reward of ₱300,000 to anyone who can provide information about the suspects.
“My brother was very active in the community. He would use his own money to cover expenses for the barangay. He even sponsored leagues,” said the victim’s sister.
