FORMER Senate president and Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Juan Ponce Enrile is currently confined in the intensive care unit (ICU) of a hospital and is in poor condition, according to his daughter Katrina on Tuesday.
“Dad is in the ICU pa po. He isn’t doing too good,” Katrina said in a message sent to GMA Integrated News.
Earlier, Senator Jinggoy Estrada said he had a “very reliable source” that the elder Enrile was in the ICU with pneumonia and had “slim chances of surviving.” Estrada shared the information during the Senate plenary session.
“Mr. President, I have just received a very, very sad information that our former colleague, former Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile, is currently in the intensive care unit of an undisclosed hospital suffering from pneumonia,” Estrada said.
“I heard from a very, very reliable source that he has slim chances of surviving,” he added.
The Senate offered a short prayer for Enrile during the session, led by Senator Joel Villanueva.
Enrile celebrated his 101st birthday last February.
