
THREE individuals, including a four-year-old child, were killed, and two police officers were wounded after three armed men ambushed police officers while they were arresting a most-wanted person in Barangay San Cristobal, Calamba City, according to Calamba City police chief Lt. Col. Dennis de Guzman.
The police were executing a warrant issued by the Calamba City Regional Trial Court against Regie Abarquez when the ambush occurred. De Guzman explained that the area was a semi-informal settlement with a junk shop and a retail store, and shoppers and children were present when the suspect was being taken to the car.
The officers wounded were identified as Police Chief Master Sgt. Alberto Plaza and Senior Staff Sgt. John Principe, both 44. The civilians killed were identified as Akhiro Sañez, 4, and Florencia Enmas, 57. The other fatality was suspect Romar Awid. One of the suspects, Leonardo Rico, was arrested, while another, Itoy Awid, remains at large.
