THE driver of the UV Express van involved in the deadly car crash along Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City on October 17 tested positive for shabu (methamphetamine hydrochloride), the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) has confirmed. The crash resulted in one fatality and injuries to three others.
According to the QCPD, the driver’s vehicle struck a group of motorcycle riders in front of the Commission on Human Rights building and continued accelerating before making a U-turn at Tandang Sora Avenue, hitting more vehicles and individuals.
As a result of the positive drug test, the driver will now face charges for violating the Anti-Drunk and Drugged Driving Act of 2013 before the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office. QCPD acting director Col. Randy Glenn Silvio stated that the suspect could face 12 to 20 years in prison, with a fine of P300,000 to P500,000, in addition to the initial charges of murder, frustrated murder, malicious mischief, abandonment of one’s own victim, and resistance and disobedience to a person in authority or their agents. The identities of the suspect and the victims have not been released.
