IBAJAY, Aklan – Ibajay, Aklan Vice Mayor Julio Estolloso was fatally shot Friday morning at the Sangguniang Bayan Office, according to the Aklan Police Provincial Office (APPO). The suspect, identified as Sangguniang Bayan (SB) member Mihrel Senatin, is currently in custody.
APPO spokesperson Police Captain Aubrey Ayon confirmed the incident, stating that the attending physician pronounced Estolloso dead at the scene from a gunshot wound to the left chest.
Senatin allegedly entered the Sangguniang Bayan Office at approximately 9:15 a.m. to request copies of local ordinances passed during his term. According to police reports, Senatin then approached Estolloso, asking, “Vice, anu ang saea kimu?” (What wrong have I done to you?), before immediately shooting the vice mayor without further provocation.
Police Regional Office 6 (PRO6) chief Police Brigadier General Josefino Ligan expressed deep concern over the incident, emphasizing that it involved public officials.
He extended condolences to the families and communities affected and assured the public that the APPO is handling the investigation with professionalism and impartiality.
Senatin is currently under the custody of the Ibajay Municipal Police Station, pending the filing of appropriate charges. General Ligan urged the public to allow due process to take its course while authorities work to maintain peace and order in the region.
