PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr., in his fourth State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Monday, July 28, 2025, reiterated the government’s commitment to thoroughly investigating the disappearances of sabungeros (cockfight enthusiasts).
He emphasized a whole-of-government approach, vowing to pursue all leads and hold accountable those responsible, regardless of their influence or social standing.
The President’s statement directly addressed concerns about the ongoing investigation and reaffirmed the government’s dedication to bringing justice to the victims and their families. He stressed that no one, regardless of their power or wealth, would be exempt from prosecution.
The President’s remarks followed previous allegations implicating criminal syndicates in the disappearances, with claims suggesting that a powerful group known as “Alpha,” comprising influential businessmen and investors, controlled the multi-billion-peso online cockfighting industry.
The ongoing investigation has already implicated several incumbent and former police officers and businessmen. President Marcos’ strong message underscores the government’s determination to dismantle these criminal networks and bring those responsible to justice.
