Marcos orders review of flood control projects amid ‘ghost projects’

admin July 28, 2025

The review is expected to identify any irregularities, assess the actual implementation of projects, and determine the extent of any potential financial losses due to fraudulent activities.

PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has directed the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to conduct a comprehensive review of all flood control projects completed within the past three years.

This directive follows allegations of widespread corruption and the existence of “ghost projects,” raising serious concerns about the effectiveness and transparency of government spending on crucial infrastructure projects.

The President’s order underscores the administration’s commitment to addressing concerns of mismanagement and ensuring accountability within the DPWH. The review is expected to identify any irregularities, assess the actual implementation of projects, and determine the extent of any potential financial losses due to fraudulent activities.

The President’s strong stance against alleged “ghost projects” highlights the government’s determination to tackle corruption within its infrastructure programs.

The review of flood control projects is particularly significant given their importance in mitigating the devastating effects of flooding, which frequently impact vulnerable communities in the Philippines.

The findings of this review will be crucial in determining the scale of the problem, identifying those responsible, and implementing measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
