SEVEN alleged members of the New People’s Army (NPA) were killed in a clash with government forces in Uson, Masbate on Sunday, July 27, according to a report from the Philippine Army’s 9th Infantry Division.
Major Frank Roldan, spokesperson for the division, stated that the 2nd Infantry Battalion engaged in a 30-minute firefight with the alleged NPA rebels in Barangay San Mateo at approximately 6:00 a.m.
The unidentified rebels were reportedly affiliated with Komiteng Larangan Guerilla South of Sub-Regional Committee 4, Bicol Regional Party Committee. The encounter underscores the ongoing conflict between government forces and the NPA in the region.
Following the encounter, authorities recovered a significant amount of weaponry and other materials from the site.
Recovered items included several high-powered rifles—M16 rifles, two M203 grenade launchers, an M14 rifle, an M653 rifle, and a Bushmaster rifle—along with personal belongings and documents belonging to the deceased rebels. Notably, the report indicated that there were no casualties on the government side.
