THE National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported six fatalities resulting from the combined impacts of Tropical Cyclone Crising, the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat), and a low-pressure area (LPA).

Three deaths were reported in Northern Mindanao, with one each in Mimaropa, Davao Region, and Caraga. While six deaths have been reported, the NDRRMC has only confirmed two at this time.

Among the confirmed fatalities, one victim in Camiguin was struck by a falling tree, succumbing to injuries sustained in the incident, while another in Surigao del Norte died after being hit by a collapsing tree while riding a motorcycle.

In addition to the tragic loss of life, the combined weather systems have caused widespread damage and displacement across the country.

The NDRRMC reports five injuries and six missing persons. A total of 1,266,322 individuals from 362,465 families have been affected in all regions except Eastern Visayas.

The impact includes flooding, landslides, damaged structures, and even tornadoes in some areas. Currently, 17,116 individuals (4,991 families) are in evacuation centers, while 65,219 (14,524 families) are seeking shelter elsewhere. The damage assessment reveals 1,501 houses damaged (348 totally, 1,153 partially), with infrastructure damage estimated at P413,020,214 and agricultural losses at P54,067,336.

The severity of the situation is underscored by the declaration of a state of calamity in Umingan, Pangasinan. The NDRRMC has provided P61,310,374 in assistance to those affected.

The ongoing assessment and relief efforts highlight the significant challenge posed by the combined weather systems, emphasizing the need for continued support and preparedness measures to mitigate the impact of future weather events. The NDRRMC continues to monitor the situation and provide updates as they become available.
