THE Coast Guard District Bicol (CGDBCL) successfully responded to a maritime incident involving the barge Premium Portland 2, owned by Navi Shipping Company, which drifted towards the Catanduanes shoreline due to severe weather conditions on July 18, 2025.
The barge, initially anchored offshore, lost its anchor line in heavy seas, leaving three crew members aboard adrift. Commodore Ivan E. Roldan PCG, Commander of CGDBCL, immediately dispatched personnel from Coast Guard Sub-Station (CGSS) Virac, along with the Special Operations Unit (SOU) and the Marine Environmental Protection Enforcement and Response Unit (MEPERU) Catanduanes. A prompt on-site assessment confirmed that no oil spill or environmental pollution had occurred.
CGSS Virac established radio contact with the barge’s patron, Mr. Berhelio Anutado, to confirm the crew’s safety and gather further details.
The Coast Guard is closely monitoring the well-being of the crew and providing necessary support. While a full investigation is underway, CGDBCL reiterates its commitment to maritime safety, environmental protection, and swift response to maritime incidents, working collaboratively with all relevant agencies.
The Coast Guard assures the public that all necessary measures are being taken to ensure the safe resolution of the situation.
