THE southwest monsoon, or habagat, will continue to bring rain to much of the Philippines on Wednesday, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).
Pagasa weather specialist Loriedin Dela Cruz-Galic warned of moderate to occasionally heavy rains in Batanes, the Babuyan Islands, Pangasinan, Zambales, Bataan, and Occidental Mindoro due to the habagat’s influence. Residents in these areas are urged to remain vigilant against the threat of flooding and landslides due to the persistent rainfall.
The habagat is also forecast to bring generally cloudy skies with rain showers to Metro Manila, the Ilocos Region, the Cordillera Administrative Region, mainland Cagayan, the rest of Central Luzon, Cavite, Batangas, Rizal, Laguna, the remaining provinces of Mimaropa (Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan), Aklan, Antique, the Negros Island Region, and the Zamboanga Peninsula.
Meanwhile, Pagasa is monitoring a low-pressure area (LPA) located approximately 1,685 kilometers east of extreme Northern Luzon. While the LPA is unlikely to develop into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours and currently poses no direct threat to the Philippines, Pagasa will continue to monitor its movement and potential impact.
