A 36-year-old cyclist was tragically killed in Pasig City on Tuesday afternoon after a series of unfortunate events involving a collision with an illegally parked truck and a subsequent run-over by an SUV.
According to a statement released by the Pasig City Police Station, the cyclist was riding his mountain bike when he collided with the tailgate of a Suzuki truck that had been illegally parked along Shaw Boulevard.
The truck driver, a 39-year-old man, was reportedly unloading water gallons when the tailgate unexpectedly opened, causing the cyclist to lose control and fall.
Immediately following the initial collision, a Mitsubishi Montero Sport driven by a 59-year-old man accidentally ran over the cyclist, resulting in fatal injuries.
Both drivers were arrested and are currently undergoing inquest proceedings for reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and damage to property.
The victim, a resident of Cainta, Rizal, tragically died at the scene. The incident highlights the dangers of illegally parked vehicles and the need for increased road safety measures to protect vulnerable road users like cyclists.
