Frasco addresses Speakership rumors, reaffirms Cebu commitment

admin June 24, 2025

– Frasco continues to boost Cebu’s air transport sector and economic growth with House Bill No. 9665 establishing the Sogod Cebu International Airport

LILOAN, CEBU — Deputy Speaker and Cebu 5th District Representative Duke Frasco on Sunday acknowledged growing speculation about a possible bid for the Speakership in the 20th Congress.

In a statement, Frasco said that he has not made any decision to run as House Speaker.

“Contrary to recent reports, I have not made any decision-much less offered myself-for the position of Speaker of the House in the 20th Congress,” he said.

To recall, Frasco refused to sign the manifesto of support for incumbent Speaker Martin Romualdez—a move widely seen as signaling independence from the current leadership coalition.

Frasco’s decision not to back Romualdez stems from what insiders describe as growing concerns over the current House leadership’s direction and effectiveness, especially following the recently concluded midterm polls.

“I believe the House of Representatives must be a united and proactive partner in delivering meaningful, lasting change for the Filipino people. That said, if the election for Speaker were held today, my support would go to either Cong. Toby Tiangco or Cong. Albee Benitez,” Frasco added.

As political alliances take shape before the start of the 20th Congress, Frasco reiterated his commitment to supporting the Marcos administration and its national agenda.

“At this time, my focus remains on supporting the President’s agenda and contributing to the broader goals of national unity and development. My commitment to the President’s vision remains firm,” he added.

Frasco’s participation in high-level engagements reflects his continued support for the president, as reflected in their recently concluded visit to Japan for the World Expo and even a personal dinner with the first couple as seen in First Lady Liza Marcos’ social media post.

Fresh from their Japan trip, Frasco early on Monday took his oath of office for a third term as Representative of Cebu’s 5th District, administered by Poblacion, Liloan Barangay Captain Gloria Sanchez.

“Today, I took my oath of office for my third term as Representative of Cebu’s 5th District. With 217,303 votes and a margin of 84,201, I am deeply honored by the overwhelming support and renewed mandate you have given me.

Frasco expressed deep gratitude to the people of Cebu’s 5th District for the overwhelming support and trust they have once again placed in him.

He vowed to continue serving with dedication, purpose, and compassion—committed to advancing the progress of the district and improving the quality of life for every family and community he represents.

“Daghang salamat, mga pinalangga kong kaigsuonan sa Kinto Distrito, sa higayon ug oportunidad nga inyong gihatag kanako sa pagpangalagad kaninyo. And, for your trust, for believing in our vision, our leadership, and the work we’ve done together. Your voice has been heard loud and clear, and I will continue to serve with dedication, purpose, and heart alang sa kalambuan sa atong Distrito ug sa kauswagan sa inyong tagsa-tagsa ka kinabuhi.”

Frasco was joined during the ceremony by his wife, Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco, Liloan Mayor Aljew Frasco and his partner Bona, and the Barangay Councilors of Poblacion, Liloan.
