OFW Party-List Representative Marissa “Del Mar” Magsino has expressed deep concern for the safety and well-being of Overseas Filipinos (OFs) and Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) in Israel and Iran amidst the escalating regional tensions.
While this isn’t the first time the region has experienced heightened conflict, the significant number of Filipinos residing in both countries – over 30,000 in Israel and approximately 700 registered in Iran according to the Philippine embassies – necessitates urgent action.
Representative Magsino is urging Filipinos in both countries to contact their respective embassies and evacuate immediately if their presence isn’t absolutely necessary.
Contact information for the Philippine Embassy in Israel is +972 54-4661188, and for the Embassy in Tehran, it’s +989122136801. The representative stressed the importance of prioritizing safety and well-being.
Upon their return, Rep. Magsino called on the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW), the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), and other members of the Inter-Agency Medical Assistance Repatriation Program (IMRAP) to provide comprehensive support for OFWs experiencing emotional and psychological distress due to the conflict.
She emphasized the need for a well-planned and humane reintegration process, acknowledging the sudden disruption to their livelihoods. The representative concluded by reiterating the paramount importance of the OFWs’ safety and offering prayers for their well-being.
