Jobs, food security top Pinoy voters’ concerns — SWS survey

admin May 1, 2025

JOB creation and food security remain the top priorities for Filipino voters, according to a recent Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey commissioned by the Stratbase Group.

The survey, conducted from April 11th to 14th, 2025, polled 1,800 respondents and has a margin of error of ±2%.

A resounding 93% of respondents indicated they would vote for candidates prioritizing “increasing job opportunities” and “development of agriculture and ensuring food security.”

This marks the fourth consecutive month these issues have topped voter concerns, highlighting their enduring significance in the current socio-economic climate.

Respondents were presented with a list of advocacies and asked about their voting preferences. Beyond jobs and food security, strong support was shown for other key issues: 91% favored candidates advocating for a “strengthening of the health care system,” while 88% supported candidates focused on “workers’ rights and OFW welfare.”

Further priorities included reducing poverty and hunger (87%), controlling prices of basic goods and services (85%), ensuring equal access to education (85%), and addressing climate change and disaster preparedness (83%).

Stratbase president Dindo Manhit commented on the findings in a press release, stating that the prioritization of jobs and food security is unsurprising given current economic challenges.

“Inflation continues to erode daily wages, increasing the cost of food, transportation, and essential services,” Manhit explained.

“Even those employed often struggle to provide for their families. Filipinos are simply asking for the dignity of stable work and the ability to support their loved ones.” The survey results underscore the urgent need for policy solutions addressing these fundamental concerns.
