2,438 former rebels apply for amnesty in 2024

admin March 14, 2025

THE National Amnesty Commission (NAC) has received 2,438 applications for amnesty from former rebels in the past year.

This was announced by NAC Chair Atty. Leah Tanodra-Armamento during the commission’s Amnesty Proclamation Anniversary. Of the total applications, 69 are currently under review for approval.

The NAC will submit its assessment of the amnesty applications to Malacañang for approval by President Bongbong Marcos.

The majority of applicants, 1,457, are from the New People’s Army (NPA), followed by applicants from the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF), and the Rebolusyonaryong Partido ng Manggagawa/Alex Boncayao Brigade (RPA/ABB).

Applicants come from various regions including Mindanao, Iloilo, Luzon, and the National Capital Region.

NAC Commissioner Jamar Kulayan emphasized that promoting peace and unity in the country is the commission’s most important goal.

Chair Armamento expressed hope that more rebels will return to the government before the program’s deadline in March 2026.

She acknowledged the challenges in reaching out to rebels due to security concerns, particularly in remote areas. The NAC assures that the Marcos administration will protect the welfare of those granted amnesty.
