Stronger together: PH economic gains attributed to Legislative-Executive partnership

admin November 27, 2024

THE House of Representatives celebrates the recent upgrade of the Philippines’ credit outlook to “positive” by S&P Global Ratings, a move that reflects the country’s strengthened economic position and effective governance.

Deputy Speaker David “Jayjay” Suarez credited the achievement to the cohesive partnership between the legislative and executive branches under the Marcos administration.

“This recognition is proof that united leadership brings tangible results for the Filipino people,” Suarez said.

Suarez highlighted the role of the House in advancing legislative measures that complement President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s economic reforms.

“Ang Kongreso ay aktibong nakikiisa sa administrasyon sa pagpasa ng mga batas na nagpapatibay at nagpapatatag sa ating ekonomiya. Ito ang tunay na diwa ng pagkakaisa para sa bayan,” he said.

He also pointed out that the House’s efforts align closely with the administration’s goal of promoting inclusive and sustainable growth.

S&P’s decision to upgrade the country’s outlook was based on improved fiscal management, consistent infrastructure investments and robust policy frameworks.

“This outcome shows the world that the Philippines is serious about fostering a stable and investor-friendly environment,” he explained.

“Through initiatives like the PPP Act, we are able to build the necessary infrastructure to connect communities and spur economic activity,” Suarez said.

“It’s a win-win for the government, private sector and, most importantly, the Filipino people.”

Suarez noted the benefits of the improved outlook for the country’s finances.

“Lower borrowing costs mean the government can redirect more funds toward critical services like healthcare, education and livelihood programs. This is how we ensure that economic growth directly benefits every Filipino,” he said.

He also emphasized the importance of building on this momentum to achieve the goal of an “A” credit rating.

“This positive outlook is not the end of the road – it’s a challenge for us to do better. We have the opportunity to further enhance our fiscal policies and governance structures,” Suarez remarked.

On fiscal reforms, Suarez underscored their necessity in building trust with international financial institutions.

He reaffirmed the House’s support for the Marcos administration’s economic initiatives, stressing that legislation remains a critical tool in achieving national development goals.

“Our work in Congress will continue to complement the President’s vision of a prosperous, resilient and inclusive Philippines,” he stated.

“Kailangan natin ng tuloy-tuloy na pagtutulungan upang masiguro na ang bawat Pilipino ay makikinabang sa tagumpay na ito,” he said.

“This is a collective achievement, and we must build on it together.”
