THE Department of Justice (DOJ) announced on Monday that Vice President Sara Duterte will be subpoenaed for questioning regarding her recent comments about a possible assassination plot against President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., First Lady Louise “Liza” Araneta-Marcos, and Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez.
At a Palace press briefing, DOJ Undersecretary Jesse Andres stated that the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) will lead the investigation. “The government’s investigation on this matter will be undertaken immediately,” Andres said. “It is crucial to determine the steps taken to secure the services of an assassin who is plotting against the President.”
Andres further emphasized the NBI’s commitment to uncovering the truth. “The National Bureau of Investigation will take all necessary steps to ascertain the identity of the assassin, including issuing a subpoena for Vice President Sara to appear before the NBI. She must provide clarity on her statements, as she directly declared that she secured the services of an assassin to target the President, First Lady, and Speaker of the House. Such statements are inappropriate coming from a high-ranking official of our nation,” he added.
This development follows President Marcos Jr.’s vow to thwart any criminal attempts in response to Vice President Duterte’s statements. Duterte had claimed that she had already ordered the assassination of the First Couple and Speaker Romualdez should an attempt on her life be successful.
