HOUSE Speaker Martin Romualdez has broken his silence in response to days of alleged insults and threats from Vice President Sara Duterte.
In a speech to the House of Representatives, Romualdez stated, “Recent events compel me to address not only the accusations that have been hurled against me personally but also the attacks on the institution we hold sacred.”
He expressed alarm over VP Sara’s statement about hiring an assassin to allegedly kill President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., First Lady Liza Araneta, and himself.
“This is no longer a joke. This is no longer normal speech. It is a direct threat to our democracy, our government, and the security of our nation.”
Romualdez emphasized, “This is not just an affront to the individuals targeted; it is an attack on the very foundations of our government. It is an insult to every Filipino who believes in the rule of law and the sanctity of life.”
Romualdez also responded to VP Sara’s accusation that he was trying to damage her reputation due to his political ambitions in the 2028 elections.
“It is clear that my job is not to destroy. The politics of destruction has never been part of my principles,” Romualdez asserted.
The Speaker believes that the baseless accusations are intended to divert attention from the alleged misuse of funds by the Office of the Vice President and the Department of Education (DepEd).
Romualdez challenged VP Sara, “If you have nothing to hide, why not answer the questions? The people have the right to know the truth.”
Finally, Romualdez reiterated his strong support for the Marcos administration.
