A MALE overseas Filipino worker (OFW) in Saudi Arabia is currently comatose in the hospital after being found bloody and unconscious on the street near his residence.
The victim was identified as Jayson Calope, a barista in KSA.
He suffered severe head injuries when he allegedly jumped from a moving vehicle.
He also tried to escape from a group of people and his wallet and cellphone were missing. Witnesses said the victim was allegedly choked, according to the victim’s brother Louie Jay Calope.
The victim’s aunt, Elsa Morabe, described Jayson as cheerful, friendly, and not confrontational.
They cannot accept what happened to him. According to the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), based on initial information gathered from the agency in KSA, Jayson reportedly accidentally fell from a moving vehicle.
However, OWWA stated that they are still gathering more details from the authorities in KSA.
“It is still under investigation. We are waiting for the police report to know what really happened… When he was first brought in, he was brain dead.
He was taken to the ICU and then he was successfully operated on,” said OWWA Operation Center Director II Atty. Sherilyn Malonzo.
OWWA assured that they will assist Jayson in emergency repatriation. They will also provide medical assistance to the OFW and the necessary support for his family.
