THE National Bureau of Investigation on Tuesday said actor Enchong Dee has surrendered and posted bail over the cyber libel case filed against him.
NBI spokesperson Ferdinand Lavin confirmed that Dee surrendered to the NBI in Quezon City on Monday and was released at 9 p.m.
“Yes, he was taken into custody at NBI VTech Tower, Quezon City yesterday and released around 9 in the evening after posting bail, and [the] release order was issued by the Court,” Lavin said.
Lavin confirmed that Lee surrendered due to the cyber libel charges filed by DUMPER party-list Representative Claudine Bautista-Lim.
“That’s correct, by virtue of an arrest warrant issued by a Court in Davao Occidental,” Lavin said.
Meanwhile, citing Regional Prosecutor Janet Fabrero, Justice spokesperson Emmeline Aglipay-Villar said there is no schedule yet for Dee’s arraignment.
“There is no schedule yet for the arraignment,” she said.
Aglipay-Villar said Dee was indicted for cyber libel last week.
According to Villar, the inhibition filed by Dee against the Regional Prosecution Office became moot and academic because the resolution was already released when it was received by the Office of the Regional Prosecutor.
“The motion for reconsideration was filed but also denied. Hence the information against him was finally filed last week,” she said.
THE camp of Kapamilya actor Enchong Dee dismissed reports that he has been hiding from the authorities of the NBI following an arrest warrant issued to him last week as a result of the P1 billion cyber libel filed against him by a lawmaker.
In a statement by his lawyers from the Castillo Laman Tan Pantaleon & San Jose Law Firm said that Dee “has been attending to his professional and personal commitments in the past couple of days and has not made any attempt to evade arrest.”
His legal team also confirmed that Dee indeed posted P48,000 bail after he surrendered to the NBI in Quezon City on Monday afternoon.
“More importantly, as a show of respect for the rule of law, he voluntarily surrendered himself to the authorities and posted bail,” his lawyers said.
“Moving forward, Enchong will take all the appropriate and necessary legal steps to defend himself against the impending lawsuit,” the statement added.
