First Deputy Prime Minister of Kuwait pledges $15,000 each to families of fire victims

admin June 15, 2024

KABAYAN Partylist Rep. Ron Salo assures the families of the fire victims in Kuwait, particularly the 3 Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) who died and other 2 in critical condition, that their welfare remains his top priority.

On June 13, a day after the fire tragedy, Rep. Salo paid his courtesies to the First Deputy Prime Minister of Kuwait and concurrent Minister of Defense and Interior, His Excellency Fahad Yousuf Saud Al-Sabah, who expressed his condolences to the victims’ families. His Excellency Fahad also committed US $15,000 to each of the families of the OFW victims, which will be given thru the Philippine Embassy in Kuwait.

Moreover, His Excellency Fahad also offered assistance for the immediate repatriation of the remains of the OFW victims. The US $15,000 is on top of any insurance benefits that are due the victims.

“We thank His Excellency Fahad and to the Kuwait Government for the financial assistance to the families of the OFW victims. It is a resounding proof of Kuwait’s Government’s genuine concern on the welfare of our kababayans working in Kuwait,” stated Salo.

Rep. Salo expressed his condolences to the victims’ families, as well as his thanks to the Philippine Embassy Officials in Kuwait, led by Ambassador Jose ‘Pepe’ Cabrera, and DMW Labor Attache Atty. Manuel Dimaano for their prompt response in assisting the OFW victims. Ambassador Cabrera, Labor Attache Dimaano and former Representative Paul Hernandez joined Rep. Salo in his courtesy call to His Excellency Fahad.

The veteran lawmaker is in the Middle East, visiting our OFWs in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Kuwait and Qatar to personally see their working conditions and to let them feel that the Philippine Government genuinely cares for them. He also joins the Filipino communities in celebrating the 126th Philippine Independence Day.

“Facing numerous challenges such as cultural differences and the emotional pains of being separated from their families, our OFWs deserved our support and assistance, and to make them feel that we are here them. It is the least that we can do as they make sacrifices for their families back home,” added Salo.
