DEFENSE Secretary Gilbert ‘Gibo’ Teodoro Jr., believed that Chinese Embassy executive involved in wiretapping should be expelled over wiretapping claims that Chinese diplomats released an audio recording of a phone call with the chief of the Western Command.
Teodoro, in an interview with reporters, said he would leave it to the Department of Foreign Affairs to probe and make a conclusion in this matter.
If the unauthorized recording by the Chinese Embassy is proven, then those involved should face consequences, he said. This is a violation of the Anti-Wire Tapping Act, he added..
“Dapat alamin kung sino ang responsable dito at alisin sa Republika ng Pilipinas (We have to find out who is responsible for this and expel them from the Republic of the Philippines),” he said.
The Defense Department would strengthen its operational security measures, he said.
China has released an audio recording purportedly of a phone conversation with Western Command chief Vice Admiral Alberto Carlos to support its claim that there is an agreement for a “new model” to manage tension in Ayungin Shoal.
Philippine officials has denied the claims of Chinese executives.
