THE Manila Police District confiscated illegal firecrackers being sold in Divisoria areas on Wednesday ahead of New Year celebration.
Manila Police District (MPD) PCP Commander P/Major Bernardino Diaz Venturina showed the confiscated illegal firecrackers in a press conference Wednesday.
Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Benhur Abalos has taken a strong stance on the matter, passing an ordinance urging local government units (LGUs) to prohibit the use of fireworks.
Abalos emphasized that several LGUs have already implemented total bans on fireworks within their municipalities, opting instead to designate specific areas for authorized fireworks displays.
In a recent statement, Abalos underscored the importance of prioritizing public safety during festive occasions.
The confiscated fireworks serve as a reminder of the ongoing efforts to curb the unauthorized sale and use of pyrotechnics, aligning with the broader initiative to promote safer and more regulated celebrations.
