THE Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) deployed two 44-meter Multi-Role Response Vessels (MRRV) to support the Rotation and Resupply (RoRe) mission of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) to Ayungin Shoal, yesterday, 22 August 2023.
PCG vessels – BRP Cabra and BRP Sindangan escorted the indigenous boats utilized by the AFP as supply vessels to transport essential provisions to our troops aboard BRP Sierra Madre in Ayungin Shoal, completing the mission on 22 August 2023, despite attempts by China Coast Guard (CCG) vessels and Chinese Maritime Militia (CMM) boats to block, harass and interfere with the supply vessels.
The PCG vessels facilitated the safe and secure delivery of provisions to our brave service personnel stationed in Ayungin Shoal.
The Philippine Navy vessels were also on standby during the mission.
The PCG is proud to have supported the AFP in its effort to sustain our presence in Ayungin Shoal.
Coast Guard Admiral Artemio Abu, the PCG Commandant, noted that collaborative efforts and unity of purpose with the AFP strongly demonstrate our government’s determination to assert our sovereign rights and jurisdiction in the West Philippine Sea.
The PCG will continue to fulfill its obligations under the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), the 2016 Arbitral Ruling, COLREGS and other relevant international instruments on maritime safety and security, and calls on all parties to cease illegal activities in the maritime zones of the Philippines.
