US Coast Guard hails PCG for doing ‘amazing job’ on oil spill response efforts

admin March 25, 2023

“𝐀𝐦𝐚𝐳𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐣𝐨𝐛!”

This is how the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) described the response efforts of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) on the oil spill in Oriental Mindoro and nearby areas.

USCG Commander Stacey Crecy noted how organized the PCG was, even comparing the response of Coast Guard personnel to their actions during a similar incident in the United States.

“Our initial assessment is that the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has organized and has done an amazing job, very similar to how we would do in the United States,” Commander Crecy said during a meeting on Wednesday, March 22.

The USCG Commander is also impressed with the resourcefulness of their counterparts while noting the collaboration between the Philippines and the US.

“So that was very impressive to us and has done many actions to incorporate assistance and the cooperations between all (PH and US) seems working very well,” Casey said, as she likewise praised the endeavor of the PCG to protect the environment.

“It seems that everybody is striving to protect the environment and the people’s safety and we have been encouraged by the actions have seen taken,” she added.

Apart from the USCG, the U.S. Navy will send technical experts and equipment needed for the salvage operations, Casey said.

PCG Deputy Commandant for Operations, CG Vice Admiral Rolando Lizor Punzalan Jr; Incident Management Team in Oriental Mindoro Commander, CG Commodore Geronimo Tuvilla, and Oriental Mindoro Governor Humerlito “Bonz’ Dolor also attended the meeting with the USCG.
