MEMBERS of the House of Representatives met with officials from the Czech Republic on Monday to discuss opportunities to strengthen bilateral relations in the areas of energy, transportation, and trade.
Deputy Speaker Kristine Singson-Meehan, Committee on Energy Chairperson Rep. Lord Allan Velasco (Lone District, Marinduque), Committee on Transportation Chairperson Rep. Romeo Acop (2nd District, Antipolo City), and Committee on Trade and Industry Chairperson Rep. Mario Vittorio Mariño (5th District, Batangas) represented the House contingent in presenting the state of the country’s energy, transportation, and trade sectors, as well as government efforts and legislative initiatives to advance them.

After a fruitful dialogue, the Czech delegation led by Deputy Speaker of the Chamber of the Deputies Jan Skopeček and Czech Ambassador to the Philippines Her Excellency Jana Šedivá paid a courtesy call on Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez.
Romualdez thanked the Czech delegation for the opportunity to increase trade, agricultural, educational, and tourist exchanges, among others, with the Czech Republic, as well as for taking care of overseas Filipino workers in their country. Romualdez also accepted Skopeček’s invitation for lawmakers to visit their country.

Present during the event were House Majority Leader Rep. Manuel Jose “Mannix” Dalipe, Minority Leader Rep. Marcelino Libanan, Committee on Foreign Affairs Chairperson Rep. Ma. Rachel Arenas (3rd District, Pangasinan), Committee on Inter-Parliamentary Relations and Diplomacy Chaiperson Rep. Glona Labadlabad (2nd District, Zamboanga del Norte), Secretary General Reginald Velasco, and Inter-Parliamentary and Public Affairs Department Deputy Secretary General Atty. Gracelda Andres.
House Members during today’s plenary session, which Deputy Speaker Isidro Ungab presided over, also formally recognized the Czech delegation later in the day.
