A GOVERNMENT nurse working in a district hospital in Datu Odin Sinsuat town, Maguindanao was shot dead before dawn Thursday by a patient’s father inside the health facility.
Maj. Reggie Abellera, spokesman of the Maguindanao police, identified the victim as Nelson Mantawil, a resident of Dalican village in the said town.
Abellera also said nearby pedestrian Nerrisa Mantawil was hit by a stray bullet, but her injuries are nonlife-threatening. It remains unclear if she is related to the nurse.
Abellera said the suspect, Butch Manalao, also of Dalican village, has a child confined at the Dinaig District Hospital, said Manila Times report.
Abellera said that based on a police report, Manalao was looking for the physician on duty before the shooting took place at about 2 a.m.
Since no physician was around, Mantawil talked to Manalao and a heated argument ensued.
“It appeared there was an argument and the suspect pulled his pistol and shot Mantawil four times,” Abellera said.
“Mantawil was transferred to a hospital in Cotabato City, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.”
Abellera stated the hospital’s security guard was taken for questioning.
