A 50-year-old man died in a fire that engulfed a residential area in Marikina City before dawn on Saturday. The tragic incident occurred in a compound on Road 3, Barangay Tañong, with the fire erupting at approximately 2:03 a.m.
According to initial reports from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), the victim managed to lead his grandchildren to safety before the blaze intensified. However, he bravely re-entered the burning house to retrieve his passport and other valuables but was unable to escape.
The fire, fueled by the light materials used in the construction of the houses, spread rapidly, affecting 26 individuals and injuring one woman. Firefighters declared the fire under control at 2:56 a.m. Six houses were damaged, with the estimated cost of structural damage reaching P350,000. The BFP is currently investigating the cause of the fire.
