THE Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said weather disturbance has intensified into a tropical storm named ‘Lan’ (international name) but it would unlikely enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) and has no direct effect in the country.
Weather specialist Obet Badrina of the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said there were also cloud formations east of Mindanao.
“They also have a slim chance to form into a low pressure area and are unlikely to enter PAR,” Badrina said.
“So we can expect to have generally fair weather as we have not monitored any storm entering the country at least until over the weekend,” he added.
The state-run weather agency said the southwest monsoon locally known as ‘habagat’ is affecting Luzon particularly Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Abra and Benguet where overcast skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms will prevail.
Over the next 24 hours, Pagasa said Metro Manila and the rest of the country will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated downpour or thunderstorms caused by habagat and localized thunderstorms.
