Tropical cyclone seen to enter PAR this weekend; to be named ‘Caloy’

admin May 4, 2026

A NEW weather system is expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) by the coming weekend, according to Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) Administrator Nathaniel Servando.

In an interview with the Philippine News Agency on Monday, May 4, 2026, Servando confirmed that the state weather bureau is closely monitoring a Low Pressure Area (LPA) located approximately 2,870 kilometers east of northeastern Mindanao as of 8:00 a.m.

Based on current observations and forecast models, the LPA is likely to develop into a tropical depression within the next 48 hours as it moves closer to the country. The system is projected to cross into the PAR either on Saturday or Sunday, at which point it will be locally named “Caloy” — the third tropical cyclone to enter the country’s jurisdiction this year.

PAGASA noted that while the system is still far from land, continuous monitoring is being conducted to track changes in its intensity and path.

Authorities advised the public, especially residents in coastal and low-lying areas, to stay updated through official bulletins as the weather disturbance approaches.

Fisherfolk and sea travelers are also urged to exercise caution and follow safety advisories that may be issued once the cyclone nears the archipelago. PAGASA assured that timely warnings and necessary preparations will be coordinated with local government units to minimize potential risks and ensure public safety.
