TD ‘Nando’ develops east of Luzon; southwest monsoon affects much of PH

admin September 18, 2025

TROPICAL Depression “Nando” has formed approximately 1,260 kilometers east of Central Luzon, packing maximum sustained winds of 55 km/h near the center and gusts of up to 70 km/h. As of 3:00 PM today,

Nando was located at 15.7°N, 133.4°E, moving northwestward at 15 km/h. While Nando is not directly threatening the Philippines at this time, the Southwest Monsoon continues to bring widespread rain and thunderstorms to Central and Southern Luzon, as well as the western sections of Visayas and Mindanao.

Residents in these areas are advised to remain vigilant for potential flash floods and landslides due to moderate to heavy rainfall.

Batanes, Babuyan Islands, and Ilocos Norte are expected to experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the trough of Tropical Storm Mitag (formerly Mirasol), which is currently located outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).

Metro Manila, Pangasinan, Zambales, Bataan, Pampanga, Bulacan, Cavite, Batangas, MIMAROPA, Western Visayas, Negros Island Region, and Zamboanga Peninsula will also have cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the Southwest Monsoon.

The Bicol Region, the rest of Central Luzon, and the remainder of Calabarzon will see partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms, also influenced by the Southwest Monsoon. The rest of the country can expect partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms caused by localized thunderstorms.

Moderate winds are expected over Northern Luzon, with moderate coastal waters. Light to moderate winds will prevail over the rest of Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, with slight to moderate coastal waters. Metro Manila will experience sunrise at 5:45 AM tomorrow and sunset at 5:55 PM today. The moon will rise at 3:23 AM tomorrow and set at 4:19 AM tomorrow, with an illumination of 6%. The public is advised to stay updated on the latest weather forecasts and advisories from PAGASA and to take necessary precautions to ensure their safety.
