TD ‘Karding’ to bring heavy rains over Luzon

admin September 22, 2022

The passage of Karding may bring heavy rains over Northern and Central Luzon beginning late Saturday. Under these conditions, isolated to scattered flooding (including flash floods) and rain-induced landslides are possible especially in areas that are highly or very highly susceptible to these hazard as identified in hazard maps.

Severe Winds

Current track and intensity forecast shows that there is a high likelihood that Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal #1 will be hoisted over Northern Luzon and some portions of Central Luzon. Localities situated in the eastern portion of Northern Luzon may be placed under TCWS #1 as early as Friday evening or Saturday morning.

HAZARDS AFFECTING COASTAL WATERS

KARDING may bring moderate to rough seas (1.2 to 3.1 m) over the seaboards of Northern and the eastern seaboard of Central Luzon beginning Sunday. Such condition may be risky for those using small seacrafts. Mariners are advised to take precautionary measures when venturing out to sea and continue monitoring for updates.

TRACK AND INTENSITY OUTLOOK

• Tropical Depression KARDING will continue moving slowly eastward or east northeastward in the next 12 hours before sharply turning westward tomorrow. On the forecast track, the tropical cyclone is forecast to maintain its westward movement until it makes landfall in the vicinity of the east coast of Isabela or Cagayan on Sunday. Afterwards, the center of KARDING will traverse the rugged terrain of Northern Luzon before emerging over the West Philippine Sea on Monday.

• KARDING developed into tropical depression at 8:00 AM today. This tropical cyclone is forecast to remain a tropical depression throughout the forecast period.

Considering these developments, the public and disaster risk reduction and management offices concerned are advised to take all necessary measures to protect life and property. Persons living in areas identified to be highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards are advised to follow evacuation and other instructions from local officials. For heavy rainfall warnings, thunderstorm/rainfall advisories, and other severe weather information specific to your area, please monitor products issued by your local Pagasa Regional Services Division.
