Signal No 4 still up in 3 areas as ‘Egay’ makes second landfall over Dalupiri Island

THE weather bureau Pagasa said Wednesday Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal 4 is still raised over parts of Cagayan, Apayao, Ilocos Norte, as Typhoon Egay sustained its strength after making a second landfall over Dalupiri Island.

In its 11 a.m. bulletin on Wednesday, PAGASA raised the following storm warnings:

The northern portion of Cagayan (Santa Ana, Gonzaga, Claveria, Sanchez-Mira, Pamplona, Abulug, Ballesteros, Aparri, Buguey, Santa Teresita, Camalaniugan, Santa Praxedes) including Babuyan Islands.

The northern portion of Ilocos Norte (Burgos, Bangui, Dumalneg, Pagudpud, Adams, Pasuquin, Vintar, Bacarra)

The northern portion of Catanduanes (Pandan, Bagamanoc, Panganiban, Viga, Caramoran).

Egay has maximum sustained winds of 175 km/h near the center, gustiness of up to 240 km/h, and central pressure of 935 hPa.

It is moving west southwestward at 15 km/h.

According to PAGASA Egay may exhibit trochoidal or wobbling motion while in the vicinity of the Babuyan Islands in the next 6 hours. It is forecast to weaken throughout the forecast period, although the rate of weakening will not be rapid. 

Egay is forecast to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Thursday morning.

Impact

One person reportedly died while two others were injured due to Typhoon Egay. The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) is still validating the report.

Meanwhile, a total of 44,356 families or 180,439 individuals were affected by Egay in eight regions, 21 provinces, 65 cities/municipalities and 261 barangays.

A total of 1,069 persons from Regions 1, 2, 3, and 6 were pre-emptively evacuated.

Classes and government work for Wednesday, July 26, were canceled in some areas due to the bad weather caused by Egay.

Assistance

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Wednesday said the government is ready to provide assistance to Filipinos affected by Typhoon Egay (international name: Doksuri).

Marcos is currently in Malaysia for a state visit. He said the government continues to enforce measures to mitigate the effects of the bad weather.

“Tuloy-tuloy ang ating pagkilos upang maaksyonan ang maaring pinsalang dulot ng Super Typhoon #EgayPH,” Marcos said in a tweet.

The President said over P173 million standby funds as well as food and non-food items have been prepared for the victims.

“Nakahanda na ang mahigit PHP 173M na stand-by funds at ang food at non-food items, at nakadeploy na rin ang search, rescue, and retrieval personnel mula sa ating Armed Forces, Bureau of Fire Protection, at Coast Guard. Naibalik na rin ang kuryente sa 93.53% ng mga apektadong munisipalidad,” Marcos said.
