PH records 2nd highest heat index since January at 47°C

THE second highest head index in the country was recorded at 47°C on Monday, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) on Monday, April 15 since 2024 began.

Based on Pagasa’s daily heat index report, Dagupan City, Pangasinan had a heat index of 47°C on Monday, one degree lower than the highest recorded temperature of 48°C in Roxas City, Capiz on March 28.

Pagasa warned the public that prolonged exposure to “dangerous” heat indices ranging from 42 to 51°C could result in heat stroke.

On Monday, 21 other areas also felt dangerous heat indices, which include Sangley Point, Cavite (45°C); Baler, Aurora (44°C); Aborlan, Palawan (44°C); Roxas City, Capiz:(44°C); and Iloilo City, Iloilo (44°C).

A heat index of 43°C was also felt in Aparri, Cagayan; Masbate City, Masbate; Central Bicol State University of Agriculture (CBSUA) station in Pili, Camarines Sur; and Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Sur. 

Meanwhile, a heat index of 42°C was recorded in Laoag City, Ilocos Norte; Calayan, Cagayan; Tuguegarao City, Cagayan; Isabela State University (ISU), Ichague, Isabela; Central Luzon State University (CLSU) in Muñoz, Nueva Ecija; Casiguran, Aurora; San Jose, Occidental Mindoro; Virac, Catanduanes; Dumangas, Iloilo; Catarman, Northern Samar; Davao City, Davao del Sur; and Cotabato City, Maguindanao.
