THE Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) issued a warning on Friday about dangerously high heat indices in 26 areas across the country. Simultaneously, the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) is expected to bring continued rainfall to Mindanao.

A heat index of 45°C is forecast for Dagupan City, Pangasinan, representing what the temperature feels like to the human body considering both temperature and humidity. This is considered a danger level, with similar high heat indices predicted for the following areas:

  • 43°C: Tuguegarao City, Cagayan; Pangasinan; Bacnotan, La Union; San Jose, Occidental Mindoro; Puerto Princesa City, Palawan; Cuyo, Palawan; Masbate City, Masbate; Pili, Camarines Sur; Dumangas, Iloilo.
  • 44°C: Iba, Zambales; Ambulong, Tanauan, Batangas; Coron, Palawan; Panglao International Airport.
  • 42°C: Echague, Isabela; Baler, Aurora; Muñoz, Nueva Ecija; Subic Bay, Olongapo City; San Ildefonso, Bulacan; Camiling, Tarlac; Sangley Point, Cavite; Infanta, Quezon; Legazpi City, Albay; Roxas City, Capiz; Mamburao, Capiz; Iloilo City, Iloilo; La Carlota, Negros Occidental.

Heat cramps and heat exhaustion are likely under danger-level heat indices ranging from 42°C to 51°C. PAGASA advises residents in these areas to take precautions to avoid heat-related illnesses.

Meanwhile, the ITCZ will bring scattered rains and thunderstorms to Surigao del Sur, Davao Oriental, Davao Occidental, Sarangani, Sultan Kudarat, Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi. Flash floods and landslides are possible due to the potential for moderate to heavy rains. Isolated rain showers or thunderstorms are also expected across the rest of Mindanao due to the ITCZ. The rest of the country can anticipate isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to easterlies.

Light to moderate winds and slight to moderate seas are expected across the archipelago
