THE Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) officially declared on Thursday the beginning of the rainy season for the western parts of Luzon and the Visayas region.
This announcement follows continuous weather monitoring and detailed analysis of atmospheric conditions observed over the last several days.
According to the state weather bureau, the transition is marked by occasional to widespread rainfall brought about by the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat, which has been affecting the specified areas for the past five days. “Based on the weather observations and analyses, occasional to frequent rains associated with the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) have been observed over the past five days. This signifies the onset of the rainy season across the western sections of Luzon and the Visayas,” Pagasa stated in its official release.
With the season now underway, residents and local government units in these areas are advised to prepare for more frequent rain showers and possible thunderstorms in the coming weeks. Pagasa also reminded the public to stay updated on daily weather bulletins and to take necessary precautions against potential hazards such as flash floods and landslides, especially in low‑lying and mountainous locations.
