THE Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) forecasts that one to two tropical cyclones may develop or enter the country’s area of responsibility this June.
Based on the bureau’s latest assessment, these weather systems have a high chance of making landfall first over the Bicol Region or Eastern Visayas, before potentially moving toward other parts of Luzon. This outlook follows the passage of Typhoon Ester, which affected parts of the country earlier last week and finally exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) last Saturday.
During a weather update aired on Monday morning, state meteorologists noted that the projected path of these upcoming cyclones is not set in stone.
There remains a possibility that their direction and movement could change depending on prevailing atmospheric conditions, so the public is advised to stay alert for updates. As of the latest monitoring, no tropical cyclones have been detected either inside or just outside the PAR, giving residents a brief window of calm before the expected increase in storm activity.
Meanwhile, the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat continues to influence the country’s weather pattern. It is expected to bring cloudy skies and scattered rain showers over the western sections of Northern and Central Luzon in the coming days. For the rest of the country, including Metro Manila, weather will be dominated by localized thunderstorms, which may bring brief but heavy rains, especially in the afternoon or evening. PAGASA reminded the public to keep track of daily forecasts and follow safety advisories, particularly those living in flood‑prone or landslide‑prone areas.
